COMMUNICATION - Artifact 3: Impact Model

A picture says a thousand words - and the same is true for a model. Models are excellent communication tools. They facilitate discussion and allow the instructional designer to communicate core concepts that drive the proposed solution. The following model was created for the local animal shelter.

Context
  • This impact model was designed to explain the factors influencing the performance of the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (TLCASC) and used as a main communication tool to facilitate discussion at the client organization.
  • The project was a requirement for EME6691, Performance Systems Analysis, taught by Dr. A. Darabi.

Conditions
  • Clear and factual communication was essential in this case, since the performance problem had the potential to trigger emotional responses from the clients: TLCASC was aiming at reducing the euthanasia rate and it was our job to determine the causes and propose solutions.
  • This model was designed to help the client see the connections between perhaps seemingly unrelated instances of deficient performance our team had observed and documented.
Scope
  • The model, along with the study and proposed solutions were presented to the clients.
  • TLCASC is currently implementing a selection of our recommendations within the scope of their reorganization.
Role
  • I was the project leader for this project.
  • Within the scope of my responsibilities, I created the project plan, assigned team roles and tasks, scheduled all customer interactions, and was the primary point of contact for the customer.
  • I created the model as a synthesis from the research our team had conducted.
