DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT - Artifact 1: Objectives & Assessment

The underlying principle of systematic instructional design is an alignment of objectives, instruction, and assessment. In the following example, I created performance objectives and corresponding assessment items for a self-instructional, print-based module.

Context
  • This design was created in October 2003 as the class project for EME5603, Introduction to Systematic Instructional Design, taught by Dr. R. Reiser.

Conditions
  • I independently designed the performance objectives based on a task analysis I had conducted earlier.
  • In alignment with each performance objective, I designed appropriate assessment items.
  • All content was created by me personally.
Scope
  • Since their publication, the materials have been used in their original form by Assessment Services customers and employees.
  • Additionally, I have adapted the materials to teach a yearly workshop on item analysis for the Program for Instructional Excellence at Florida State University.
  • Both the self-instructional module and the workshop are rated positively by users and participants.
Role
  • I personally completed all phases of the project, including the analysis presented in the artifact.
