MANAGEMENT & IMPLEMENTATION - Artifact 3: Project Plan

Without a detailed project plan it is very difficult to effectively manage performance improvement projects. The project plan contains tasks, dependencies, timelines, and assignments, all of which must be kept track of by the project manager.

Context
  • This project plan was created in early 2003 to steer the development of a new course evaluation system.
  • The project was sponsored by the Office for Distributed and Distance Learning and managed by me under the supervision of Dr. B. Armstrong.

Conditions
  • The web-based system was designed in order to replace an outdated method for providing course evaluations.
  • The target deadline of Fall 2003 was negotiated between my supervisor and the director of our unit.
Scope
  • The project plan was used to steer the project through completion in Summer 2003 when the new system was pilot tested.
  • The course evaluation application offers online ordering of course evaluation packets and online access to course evaluation reports to the faculty and administrators of the university.

Role
  • I was the project manager and designer of the system and supervised two programmers who implemented the design.
  • As the project manager I was responsible for creating and maintaining the project plan.
